Fifth color, clipping image and text with shadow
from Adobe InDesign CS3 to print-ready PDF file

Background Image

1) Make the frame for background image with Rectangle Tool (F).

2) Place the background image into the frame with File – Place (Ctrl+D).

Heading Text

3) Write the heading text with Type Tool (T).

4) Choose the spot color for the heading text with Swatches – New Color Swatch (Use Color Type: Spot and Color Mode: PANTONE Solid Coated).

Clipping Image

5) Make the copy of the background image with Copy – Paste.

6) Define the clipping image: change the frame with Convert Shape – Polygon and add new point with Pen Tool (P).

7) Add shadow to the clipping image with Effects - Drop Shadow (Alt+Ctrl+M).

Additional Text

8) Write the additional text with Type Tool (T).

9) Choose the CMYK color for the heading text with Swatches – New Color Swatch (Use Color Type: Process and Color Mode: CMYK).

10) Add shadow to the clipping image with Effects - Drop Shadow (Alt+Ctrl+M).

Print-ready PDF file

11) Make the PDF file with Adobe PDF Presets or Export – Adobe PDF. (Use the predefined setting PDF/X-1a (2001) or KroonpressPDFmagazine-idcs3).

Checking the Separations

12) Open PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and check the color separations with Print Production Tools - Output Preview.

13) Switch off Separations: Process or Spot for verifying the correct separations.
